Announcement of the Position of a University Professorship in Liturgical Studies
At the Institute for Biblical Studies and Historical Theology of the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the University of Innsbruck, a
University Professorship
for
Liturgical Studies
is to be filled in accordance with § 98 of the Austrian Universities Act (UG). The private-law employment relationship, based on the Salaried Employees Act, will be entered into with the university on a permanent basis. The employment level is 100%.
Responsibilities
Representation of the field of Liturgical Studies in research and teaching in its full breadth. Cooperation with other disciplines within the Catholic-Theological Faculty as well as with other faculties in both teaching and research.
Teaching responsibilities in Liturgical Studies across all theological study programs offered at the faculty (Diploma Program in Catholic Theology, BA and MA in Catholic Religious Education, BA and MA in Secondary Education—Subject: Catholic Religion, Doctoral Program in Catholic Theology, PhD Program of the Catholic-Theological Faculty).
Participation in the further development of the faculty research center “Synagogue and Churches”, in the university-wide interdisciplinary research focus “Cultural Encounters – Cultural Conflicts”, and in at least one of the doctoral colleges housed within the Catholic-Theological Faculty.
Participation in university self-governance is expected.
Employment Requirements
A completed domestic university education appropriate to the position, or an equivalent foreign university degree;
An outstanding doctorate in Catholic Theology;
Relevant teaching qualification (Habilitation) or an equivalent qualification;
High-quality, field-specific publications;
International visibility in research and knowledge transfer;
Strong didactic skills, particularly experience in practice-oriented teaching;
Documented activities in the area of Third Mission;
Suitability for leadership;
The ability to teach courses in German and English; or, where applicable, the willingness to acquire the missing language for use in university responsibilities to the required extent (at least C1 level within two years in the second language).

The following are also desired
Thematic specializations in the areas of Ecumenical Theology and liturgical music;
Experience in acquiring and managing research funding;
Competence in digital teaching and administration.

When submitting applications, Article V § 1 of the Concordat between the Holy See and the Republic of Austria of 5 June 1933 (Federal Law Gazette II No. 2/1934) as well as § 38 (1) of the Universities Act 2002 must be observed. The University of Innsbruck is committed to increasing the proportion of women and, therefore, explicitly invites qualified women to apply. In cases of equal qualification, women will be given preference. However, § 35 (4) of the University of Innsbruck’s Women’s Advancement Plan (preferential inclusion in the appointment proposal in the case of equal qualification) applies only insofar as it does not conflict with Article V § 1 (4) of the Concordat.
Salary and Benefits
For this position, classification in salary group A1 of the Collective Agreement for University Employees and a minimum monthly salary of € 6,604.30 (paid 14 times per year) is stipulated. A higher salary, depending on qualifications and experience, as well as the resources provided for the professorship, will be negotiated in the appointment process.
