INSeCT will celebrate its 30th Anniversary

This coming August 26–30, 2026, INSeCT will bring together theologian-representatives from 17 member societies and 4 affiliated societies from different regions of the world to celebrate the Network's 30th anniversary.

On August 4,1996, the International Network of Societies of Catholic Theology (INSeCT) was founded and the statutes were drafted and agreed upon by Peter Hünermann, Mário Fabri dos Anjos (Sociedade de Teologia e Ciências de Religio, SOTER, Sao Paul, Brazil), Paul G. Crowley, S.J. (Catholic Theological Society of America, CTSA), Carlos Maria Galli (Sociedad Argentina de Teologia, SAT), Meinrad Hegba (Association Oecumenique des Theologiens Africaines, AOTA), Christian Johansson (Sociedad Chilena de Teologia), Anne E. Patrick SNJM (Catholic Theological Society of America, CTSA), Nico Schreurs (Europäische Gesellschaft für katholische Theologie, ET), Ignacio Mader Vargas, SDS (Associacion de teologos koinonia, Bogata, Columbia). This assembly de facto constituted the first Network Council, representatives from with member societies. Since its establishment, INSeCT has grown into a global network of theological societies committed to fostering academic research, dialogue, and collaboration among its member and affiliated societies worldwide.

The 30th Anniversary Gathering will provide an opportunity to revisit the history of the Network and reintroduce its organizational structure, statutes, and major projects over the past three decades. It will also serve as a space to reflect on the current concerns and challenges facing Catholic theology and to discern, together, the future directions and mission of INSeCT.
