JOB OPPORTUNITY: University Proffesorship in New Testament Biblical Studies

At the Institute for Biblical Studies and Historical Theology of the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Innsbruck, there is an opening for a


University Professorship

in 

New Testament Biblical Studies


in accordance with § 98 of the Universities Act (UG). The employment relationship under private law, based on the Employees Act, will be entered into on a permanent basis with the University. The position is full-time (100%).


Responsibilities

  • Representation of the field of New Testament Biblical Studies in its full breadth in both research and teaching. Collaboration with other disciplines within the Faculty of Catholic Theology and with other faculties in teaching and research.


  • Teaching responsibilities in the field of New Testament Biblical Studies in all theological study programs offered by the Faculty (Diploma in Catholic Theology, BA and MA in Catholic Religious Education, BA and MA in Secondary Education with a specialization in Catholic Religion, Doctoral Program in Catholic Theology, and the PhD Program at the Faculty of Catholic Theology).


  • Participation in the further development of the Faculty’s research center “Synagogue and Churches”, in the University of Innsbruck’s interdisciplinary research focus “Cultural Encounters – Cultural Conflicts”, in one of the doctoral programs affiliated with the Faculty of Catholic Theology, as well as in the Biblical Studies Literature Documentation Innsbruck (BILDI).


  • Active participation in university self-administration is expected.


Employment Requirements

  1. Completed university education in Austria or an equivalent foreign qualification relevant to the position;

  2. Doctorate in a relevant field

  3. Relevant authorization to teach (Habilitation) or an equivalent academic qualification;

  4. Excellent and high-quality scholarly publications in the field;

  5. Demonstrated involvement in international research;

  6. Ability to engage in interdisciplinary work with related fields;

  7. Experience in acquiring and managing competitive third-party funding;

  8. Excellent teaching skills;

  9. Leadership competence;

  10. Ability to teach courses in both German and English, or, if necessary, willingness to acquire the missing language skills to at least B2 level within two years for use in university duties.

Salary and Benefits

This position is classified under salary group A1 of the Collective Agreement for University Employees, with a minimum monthly salary of €6,604.30 (14 payments per year). A higher salary and resources for the professorship may be negotiated based on qualifications and experience.
